How much does dog grooming cost in Basildon in 2026?

Most groomers in Basildon, Billericay and Wickford do not publish prices. They quote by breed size and coat condition once they have seen the dog. Four in this directory do publish, and their figures give a reliable floor for what to expect across the borough.

What to expect when you ask for a quote

  • Small dogs under 10 kg. Around £30 to £40 in a salon, £40 to £45 from a van.
  • Medium dogs, spaniels and cockapoos. £40 to £50 in a salon, £45 to £55 mobile. Curly coats sit at the top of that range because they take longer.
  • Large dogs, retrievers and doodles. £50 to £65. Labradoodles with a full coat can go higher.
  • Bath and tidy only. Usually £10 to £15 less than a full groom for the same size. The Groom Room lists a wash-and-go from £15 for the smallest dogs.
  • Nail trims. £10 is the going rate; Wilsher's includes a paw tidy at that price.

What pushes the price up

Matting is the big one. Every groomer reserves the right to charge extra once they see a felted coat, and some will only clip it short rather than brush it out, for the dog's sake. Hand stripping for wire-coated terriers is slower than clipping and only a handful of local groomers offer it, so expect a premium. Cats and rabbits are priced separately by the few businesses that take them.

Mobile versus salon

Vans in this area charge roughly £5 to £15 more than a salon for the same dog. In return you save the two trips and the dog is groomed alone, with no waiting in a crate. For anxious dogs and for owners without a car that gap is usually worth paying.
